Embroidered felt beads

Have been making samples for a class I'll be teaching in January at the Embroiderers Guild Victoria (Melbourne, Australia). Day 1 we will learn wet feltmaking techniques to make round balls and elongated tube beads, and the little pellets shown here, plus small pieces of flat felt. Day 2 we'll stitch into the shapes.
I also plan to create an online eClass on felt jewelry techniques to sell through Go-Make-Art.

Felt ball necklaces

I've been making felt balls like crazy for several weeks, then turning them into jewelry. Here's a necklace.

I find felt ball rolling to be really therapeutic. It's a good activity to do in front of the tv.

With all the practice, I've hit upon some techniques that speed up the process. I also know how to get more consistent results.

I'm on the verge of a big project here: creating an ebook or eclass about making jewelry with felt balls and cords you roll yourself from wool fibers.

Stay tuned, folks. It's coming . . .

The Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence

The Convergence is in full swing at Beechworth, Victoria Australia! We have over 100 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand. Here are three prominent feltmakers from the State of Victoria - Kitty Chung O'Kane, wearing a top made from a recycled tablecloth plus handmade felt. Kitty is an amazing evening wear designer. Della Jones is in the middle wearing her own felted and dyed pieces. She's a wiz at natural shibori dyeing and feltmaking. Then, wearing a hat by Anna Ashton is Robyn Steel-Stickland, author of the Penguin book "Felt" and president of Victorian Feltmakers as well as the convenor of the convergence.
